King David didn't go to battle with his men.Oh, he would have, but the people wouldn't let him. "But you are worth ten thousand of us now." (2 Sam 18:3 NKJV)Instead, he stayed and sat at the city gate, waiting for news of the battle. But would the news be good, or...
Our story today takes us to the banks of the Jordan River. David's men had successfully stopped the Absalom rebellion and David was free to return as rightful king of Israel. But David didn't just return to Jerusalem when his son was brought down. Instead, he waited...
"Next Mephibosheth grandson of Saul arrived from Jerusalem to welcome the king. He hadn't combed his hair or trimmed his beard or washed his clothes from the day the king left until the day he returned safe and sound." (2 Sam 19:24-25 The Message) Our lesson from...
"Then the king said to Amasa, 'Summon the men of Judah to come to me within three days, and be here yourself.' But when Amasa went to summon Judah, he took longer than the time the king had set for him. David said to Abishai, 'Now Sheba son of Bicri will do us more...

This next lesson from David's fall comes to us from the last chapter of 2 Samuel. The story starts off by saying the Lord is angry with Israel: "Again the anger of the Lord was aroused against Israel . . ." (2 Sam 24:1a). The Bible doesn't tell us why, but...
Just one last lesson we can learn from this powerful story. It's interesting to note that throughout all of the trouble that David went through, this king and mighty warrior didn't even put up a fight. When Absalom took over the palace, David just passively packed his...
Sometime early in His ministry, Jesus had an interesting encounter with a Pharisee named Nicodemus. We aren't told much about this particular Pharisee. In fact, the grand total of what we know is found in John 3:1-20, as well as in one tiny verse in John 19: 1....
Last week, in JESUS AND NICODEMUS, Part 1, we saw that there is a deep, albeit unrecognized, need in each of us to understand things from the spiritual level, the level in which God sees the world. We once had this ability but we lost it back in Eden, and this is the...
