The Important Part

by | Oct 28, 2026 | Christian Living, Faith, Focus, Hope, Strength, Trials, Trust, Wisdom

I once found a muskrat who had fallen into a deep window well at the front of our home.  No matter how hard he tried he could not escape.  Taking pity upon him, I went and found a board, which I placed in the window well on such an angle that he could climb to freedom.

Like that muskrat, we too can sometimes feel like we are caught in a dark hole with no escape. Life is full of difficulties, hardships and sorrow.  There is no one who escapes at least some of these things in one form or another.

When such things occur, we may cry or research our situation and choices, or fly into a temper, go into depression or immerse ourselves in some diversion to keep our minds from dealing with the reality of our predicament.  In the end however, when our plight is long term, and we realize that we may have to cope with it indefinitely, we need to make a decision, as to how we shall achieve this end.

Over the years, having been caught in several holes for extended periods, I have finally learned that the important part comes down to one thing: doing it well.  I may not be able to change my circumstance but living well within it, is something I do have control over.  It is not something however which I can do by or even for myself.  The situation is just too big and overwhelming. I need someone greater than myself if I am to succeed.  That someone is Jesus Christ.

The apostle Paul wrote: “I can do everything through him who gives me strength.” (Philippians 4:13 NIV).  While James penned: “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.” (James 1:5 NIV).

God is aware of every situation and hole which comes our way and he is more than able to use each one for our good as well as the glory of his kingdom.  By putting our faith and trust in him and the strength and wisdom he is able to provide for us through Christ Jesus, we can learn to hold our heads high amidst our situations and keep walking in a godly fashion with grace and dignity amidst them. We must however believe that in Him, and his promises, we can indeed do it and do it well.

Today, maybe you are stuck in what seems like and inescapable hole, if so stop looking at the hole and start looking up in belief for the strength and wisdom you require for the most important part: doing your time in the hole, well with and for Jesus.

Prayer: Father God thank you that strength and wisdom are always available to us through our relationship with Christ.  Motivate us to ask, seek, find, believe, and thus live in victory in all situations. In Christ’s name.  Amen.
