The Snowy, Windswept Yard

by | Nov 21, 2015 | Freedom in Christ, Salvation, Sin

It had been snowing all day and all night — Blowing snow, that light, fine, powdery stuff that traveled where every breath of a air took it.  There was probably a foot or so accumulated on the deck, burying the dog’s chain — and anything else that had accidentally been left out there!  The driveway was no better.  Drifts of snow lay as deep as a foot covered most of the narrow strip of gravel that served to connect our garage with the road.    But as I looked out into the backyard, I was amazed to still see grass!  How, after 24 hours of steadily falling snow, would there still be grass visible?  How, with a foot of snow on the driveway and on the back deck, could there not even be enough snow to cover the back yard?  Then I realized that the bare spot formed a huge triangle across the yard, with the base of the triangle of grass being the neighbor’s backyard body shop!  Why?   Of course I knew the answer to these questions, but I pondered them anyway — the snow simply went where the wind drifted it.  And since the wind doesn’t pass through buildings as big as that garage, but instead, must blow around them, it would only stand to reason that there would not be much snow there where the wind couldn’t blow!    Quickly a Bible text flashed across my mind:  “Though your sins are like scarlet,
they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.”
(Isa 1:18).  Staring at all those piles of snow on the deck, it was easy to understand this text!  The snow covered everything on the deck!  But here my illustration seemed to end, for surely the blood of Jesus’ sacrifice is enough to cover everyone’s sins!   As I continued to watch the wind gust across the back yard, but leaving that huge triangle of grass bare, I suddenly understood!  Jesus’ sacrifice is for everyone — but not everyone will accept it!  Jesus’ sacrifice is carried on the wings of the wind — the Holy Spirit –who freely brings the Good News of the Gospel to everyone.  But sometimes there are things in the lives of the unsaved that serve as a “wind block” to the Holy Spirit.  This wind block can be harboured sin, it can be unforgiveness, it can be deep-rooted hurt or any number of addictions.     But if this is the case, how can we remove the “wind block” in our lives?  I mean, I can’t exactly go out and tear down the neighbor’s garage, can I?  Neither can I, by myself, tear down the “wind blocks” of my life.  What I can do is to give them away!  I can simply give them to God!  Once I’ve done that, there is nothing to stop the “wind” of God’s Spirit to flow over me, covering me in a foot of freshly-fallen snow . . . “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow . . .”   Would you like to remove the “wind blocks” in your life, my friend?  Just give it all to Jesus!  Give Him everything.  All of your troubles, all of your cares, all of your addictions, all of your anger, all of your hurt, all of your secret sins.  Then just sit back and feel the cleansing power of Jesus rush over you, washing you “white as snow”!  If you would like to do so today, just answer the Savior’s Call by clicking here:  http://answers2prayer.org/saviours_call.html    Don’t wait another day, my friend, to experience the cleansing power of the blood of the Lamb!   “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.” (Isa 1:18)   Love in Christ,
