One Second at a Time, Sweet Jesus

by | Oct 18, 2014 | God Is In Control, Gods Time, Gods Ways, Obedience

David knowing that he is anointed of God to lead God’s nation is now running from cave to cave in fear.  After all King Saul and all of his army is trying to kill David.  David was once an ally to King Saul, was one of his mightiest men and now he was on the run.

How could this be?  A mandate from God,an anointed vessel,a man chosen by the very hand of God is now running to and fro, not knowing whether he will be alive for a moment more.

David had 2 opportunities to kill Saul:

The first time, David and his men were hiding in the back of a cave — hiding because Saul and his army of 3,000 were pursuing them.Saul “went in to relieve himself” (1S.24:3).David knew in himself that God did not send Saul here to be killed.  He said to his men, ‘The Lord forbid that I should do such a thing to my master, the Lord’s anointed, or lift my hand against him; for he is the anointed of the Lord’ (1S.24:6).

The second time David had an opportunity to kill Saul occurred when Saul was again pursuing him.  Saul and his men were encamped in the wilderness not far from David.  While they slept, David and a loyal captain, Abishai, crept up close to Saul’s camp.  Abishai volunteered to kill Saul, but David stopped him, asking, “Who can lay a hand on the Lord’s anointed and be guiltless?”… But the LORD forbid that I should lay a hand on the LORD’s anointed.  Now get the spear and water jug that are near his head, and let’s go.” (1S.26:9,11).   Instead of killing Saul, David took the spear and water jug near Saul’s head.

Two opportunities presented themselves to David to kill Saul and yet David still chose to seek God’s will and not his own.  God is not man that he should lie and he is not slow to keep his promises.  David had to start living one second at a time, start trusting God for every breath.  Every night when David put his head on the pillow, he had to trust God for sleep.  Every morning when he woke up, he had to thank God for the breath of life.  Every day, every moment and in every second of living,he had to trust God to align his feet.

David trusted God and he was careful to seek God’s will.  David was not a perfect man but he was quick to repent of his sin and make right with God.  God proved faithful to David and delivered to him what he was promised, the throne of Israel.Even when David was hurt, rejected, alone and afraid, he still trusted God.

If David took the two opportunities to kill Saul, he would always trust in his own understanding and strength.  Since he chose to trust God, he saw the glory of God.  Wait for God’s Glory.  Let God sustain you one second at a time.  Don’t live beyond a moment because there will be too much to think off and be concerned with.  Trust God for the moment and seek his will even when it hurts.  God knows your beginning and end so through this path you are taking, he will guide you.  Don’t make the wrong choices right now.  Wait for God to act and then only under his authority, walk.

Just like the throne of Israel was prepared, discussed and waiting for David, there is also a promise of hope, restoration, healing and deliverance waiting for you.  Don’t allow your will to take over.  Stay in God’s will.  Live one second at a time and God will take care of you one second at a time.

God Bless you
