Every Spring I am intrigued and delighted to see small pools of water forming from the melting snow in depressions along the highway boulevards. Before long, those tiny pools host the most beautiful bright green shoots gaily reaching for the sky, while all around them dead grass still lays dormant.
Trusting in the Lord, is a lot like those small pools that foster the rich growth of Spring, long before the surrounding vegetation. Placing our confidence in him, assures us that our lives will be rooted and established in his stability and truth no matter what is going on in our midst. The heat of oppression may assail us in various ways and the droughts of life may surround us as we struggle with all the uncertainties this world flings our way. We will continue to grow however and bear the fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control, as we stand firm in our belief in who God is and what he is able to do within us. Our spirits will flourish promoting both health and strength as we partake of the Living Water Christ offers to all whose confidence is in him.

The expression appears most prominently in the teachings of prophets and in the words of Jesus. The term “living” emphasizes a flowing, dynamic quality, as opposed to stagnant or still water, and points to the transformative power of God.
When we stand firm in Christ, his Living Water within, transforms us in dynamic ways, allowing us to say amidst any circumstance that it is well with our soul, for indeed we are like a tree planted by the water that sends out our roots by the stream. We do not fear when heat comes; our leaves are always green. We have no worries in a year of drought and never fail to bear fruit.
Prayer: Father God, thank you for the Living Water of Christ who dwells within every believer. Thank you that because of him, we can truly say, at all times, good, bad or ugly, that it is indeed well with our soul. In Christ’s name. Amen.
