Humble Yourself Before God

by | Jun 29, 2024 | Dependency, Humility

“If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

(2 Chronicles 7:14 ESV)

“But he gives more grace. Therefore, it says, ‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.’”

(James 4:6 ESV)

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you.”

(1 Peter 5:6 ESV)

What does it mean to humble yourself before God?

According to AI Overview, “In the Bible, humbling oneself means acknowledging God as Lord and obeying as a servant. It can also mean having a proper understanding of one’s relationship with God and having strength under control.” According to google, humble means “having or showing a modest or low estimate of one’s own importance.”

If you want to be more humble, here are 7 ways to practice humility:

1. Be aware of your own shortcomings, strengths, and limitations.
2. Recognize and acknowledge the strengths of others.
3. Be open to learning and adapting.
4. Work towards putting others’ needs before your own.
5. Be appreciative of others and express your gratitude often.
6. Be open to constructive criticism and feedback.
7. Own your mistakes.

Humility in the Bible is presented as the practice of meekness, obedience to God, respect of self and others, submissiveness, and modesty (see Colossians 3:12-13). People with humility put others’ needs before their own, sacrificing for the love of others.

God wants us to acknowledge that apart from Him, we can do nothing. He is the one who knows us, the one who created us. He has a plan for each one of us. When we begin to put all of our faith in God, we humble ourselves to the point of being completely dependent on Him. Humble yourself before God and allow Him to work on and through you.

Have a great day, everyone.
