Follow Through

by | Dec 29, 2023 | Calling, Follow Jesus, Persistence

“In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.”

(Ephesians 1:13-14 ESV)

“For by grace, you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”

(Ephesians 2:8-9 ESV)

I gave my life to God at the age of 10. I didn’t know much about how to follow through, and my church didn’t follow through with us either. I just knew that I gave my life to God. But what do I do now?

I went through my teen years searching. I finally left the church when I was 19. I didn’t go back except for weddings and funerals for 28 years. I had never given up on God. I still prayed and read my Bible. I just didn’t go to church.

I have since learned how to follow through. I was doing it all along. I was praying and reading my Bible. Just not like I should have been. God has been very patient with me. For 28 years He kept trying to get my attention. For 28 years, I didn’t hear Him. But God did keep watching out for me, even though I wasn’t walking as closely as I should have been. He still protected me, and He kept providing for me.

God never gave up on me. He kept putting people in my path to try to get my attention. I kept walking on past them. One day, though, I was between jobs. I had an overwhelming desire to go back to church. So I did. I now know how to follow through. I know how to help others who are struggling. I don’t have all the answers. I will be the first to admit that. But I will try to find the answer.

So, if you are struggling in your walk with God. Talk to Him. Ask Him what to do. Then listen for that small still voice, telling you what to do.

Have a fabulous day.
