Neither Slumbers Nor Sleeps

by | Jan 16, 2016 | Blessings, Gods Ways, Trust

It was four in the morning when it happened. I couldn’t sleep, and I finally just got up. I had just picked up my new cell phone the day before, my first “smart” phone, and I decided to play with it a bit. Maybe it would help me go to sleep! I started out to try and turn off the wake-up alarm I had set the night before, but as I touched random buttons here and there, to my horror, it began to dial a number! At 4 am! Frantically I began pushing buttons, but try as I might, I couldn’t get the thing to hang up. Where was that lovely little “red” button that I could always rely on to terminate a call?

And then I heard what I dreaded the most to hear–The very sleepy voice on the other end: “Hello? Hello?”

It was with shame that I responded: “I’m so sorry! I picked up my phone to turn off the alarm, and I don’t know what I did, but it dialed you!”

Fortunately for me, it was my all-forgiving mother and not someone else on my contact list! I know she’ll love me no matter how many times I phone her at 4 am.

Fortunately for all of us, we have a Father who also doesn’t mind being contacted at any time. In fact, He never sleeps: “He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel Shall neither slumber nor sleep.” (Ps 121:3-4, NKJV). No matter what hour of the day or night, He is there, reaching out to us, holding us together, bringing us through victorious.

What do you need today? Why not ask our all-loving God who never slumbers of sleeps? Hasn’t He promised that He will supply all our needs? “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” (Phil 4:19, NKJV)

“And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you. Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.” (John 16:23-24, NKJV)

In His love,
