Is There Anyone out There who Knows or Cares?

by | Jan 16, 2016 | God Cares

“O LORD, you have searched me and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.” (Ps 139:1-2)

Have you ever had the feeling that no one truly understands you? No one really knows you? No one can possibly comprehend how you think and why you do what you do? If you haven’t, then you are definitely in the minority! I have met very few people who haven’t entertained these types of thoughts once in awhile! I know few people indeed who haven’t suffered the damages that such thoughts can induce!

Yet King David spends the first 16 verses of Psalms 139 proving to us beyond doubt that whenever we feel this way, we are wrong! “LORD, you have searched me and you know me.” (Ps 139:1) Friends, there is Someone who really knows us, who comprehends how we think and why we do what we do. There is Someone who truly UNDERSTANDS each and every one of us! And that Someone is God!

But, you ask, how could anyone know that much about everyone? David answers this question in Ps. 139:13: “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.” God knows us through and through, inside and out, because He made each one of us! He put us together in our mother’s wombs! He knows us because He knows what He made!

Please go one step farther with me. Have you ever entertained feelings of inadequacy or insecurity? Have you ever thought to yourself, “If only I were a little more _____, perhaps I could be more useful in God’s work”? Friends, this is a dangerous way to think. Keeping in mind that God actually “knit [us] together in [our] mother’s wombs”, when we give in to the deception that we are inadequate, we are basically saying that God didn’t “knit [us] together” in the right way! But He did. He knew exactly what He was doing when He made each of us, and He has a special place in His heart and in His plan for each of His creations!

Dearest Lord, I humbly come before You now and confess that I have often chosen to believe the lies of the enemy that no one cares, that no one understands me, and that I am in some way inadequate. Lord, “you have searched me and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar . . . You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb.” Help me to fully comprehend what it means to have been personally made by You as a unique, precise, precious creation! Help me to fully comprehend that it doesn’t matter what humans think of me, for in You, I am a exceptional, special person, designed by You for Your specific purposes! Help me to learn to see myself as fully-equipped to do the work You have laid out for me when I embrace the promise that I can do everything through You who gives me strength (Phil 4:13)!

In His love,
Lyn
