“Today is the day I have been waiting for,” wrote an unknown author. “All my life has been spent in preparation for it. Yesterday and tomorrow are faraway nothings – the one a faint memory, the other a vague promise. But this is my day. It offers all that God has to give, and I’m a laggard and a coward if I fail to make the most of it.”
Well, I’m a pretty good time waster and I am often guilty of failing to make the most of my time.
I don’t know about you, but I need time to soak up feelings and atmospheres and when I lose touch with myself, my health goes out the window.
Now, there are people who are lessons in perpetual motion. I admire them. There are people who are always doing something for somebody else. I admire them.
So what’s the point?
The point is this. I must march to the beat of my drum. You must march to the beat of your drum.
Nobody will handle life just as you will handle it. Sometimes you will surprise yourself with how well you handle a crisis. Sometimes you will nearly die of shame that you handled it so badly.
If you can recall just one shining hour in a whole lifetime of living, take it in your hands occasionally. It is a present from God. Give it to yourself as a present. What else is it useful for?
Sunshine amid storm clouds –
One shining hour
Probably nobody else remembers it, but you do. So don’t be ashamed if God gives you the beat of a drum different from all others. It calls you into some strong room of your mind, some place where the sun rises for you, and you alone.
“Be still and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10)
