“Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into Him who is the Head, that is, Christ.” (Ephesians 4:15 NIV)
When visiting one of my daughters, her 4 year old son was watching me put on my make up. He wondered what I was doing so told him I was making myself beautiful. Then I asked him if he thought it helped. With the honesty of a child, he said, “No!” I just hooted and hugged him.
It made me think though. God wants me to be completely honest with Him. If I’m hurting, He wants me to tell Him. If I’m angry at Him, He wants me to tell Him that too. He already knows it so I might as well admit it. Jesus is okay with it when I tell Him how angry I am. So many times in the past, I thought I couldn’t tell Him how I was feeling—but that is a lie from . He also wants me to be open and honest with others—open about my struggles and my pain. That is the only way I can be healed.
Little children are so honest. We, as parents and grandparents, are okay with that and accept them just the way they are. Let’s learn from children. Let’s tell our Heavenly Father how we feel, where we’re hurting, what we’re struggling with, and how angry we are. Let’s be honest with others as well and pray for each other. There is great power in honesty and prayer.
James 5:16 — “Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and wonderful results.”
PRAYER — Heavenly Father, thank You for Your faithfulness. Thank you that You understand our emotions. Help us to be completely honest with You and with others. Help us to speak the truth in love and grace. Help us to share our struggles with someone we trust. Help us to remember that the prayer of the righteous person has great power and wonderful results. May we ever be mindful to pray for others. Amen
