Desire of our Heart

by | Oct 18, 2014 | Relationship, Worship

“Delight yourself in the Lords; And He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him and He will do it.” (Psalm 37:4-5  NAS)

Years ago when I was a child, my aunt told me about finding a twig on the street. She took the twig home and sanded it, cut it, varnished it and made a beautiful necklace from it. She applied that to what Jesus does to us when He finds us and saves us. I thought that was so neat how she could find a spiritual lesson in that.

As an adult, I met someone who could also see spiritual lessons in everything. This time I was amazed at her ability to do this.

I never consciously prayed about it; in fact, I never really thought much more about it. Looking back, I realize that God was working in my heart—even as a child. He put a desire in me to see spiritual lessons in every day events. I had to go on a bumpy road for quite a few years though in order to apply every day things to my life. Now there isn’t usually a day that goes by that I don’t see a spiritual application to something I experience or observe.

Even though I didn’t know it at the time, I had that desire to grow and to see God in every situation and to paint a word picture to share with others.

I give Him all the glory and honor for planting that seed so many years ago. My desire now is to use this gift to encourage and bless and strengthen others.

What desire has God put in our hearts? Maybe we aren’t even aware of it yet. Let’s be open to Him speaking to us and leading us one day at a time.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, You know us better than we know ourselves. You have put desires in our hearts that we may not be aware of yet. You are faithful and You will lead us on Your path if we are willing to listen and obey. Help us, O Lord. Amen
