Steadfast Love

by | Jul 21, 2024 | God's Love, Love

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”

(Lamentations 3:22-23 ESV)

“But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.

(Psalm 86:15 ESV)

Oxford Language defines steadfast as “resolutely or dutifully firm and unwavering.” I think we all know what love is.

Can you love someone with steadfast love? Remember, it means an unwavering love. Does your love for someone never waver if they get mad at you for something? I would say it wavers a bit. But the steadfast love of our Lord never wavers, never falters, and never fails.

Jesus was an extraordinary man. He had a steadfast love for His fellow man. It would be great if we could all be more like Jesus. But can we really be like Him? We are only human, after all. I have to wonder if Jesus was born in our time. With all the corruption in the world, would His love for us be the same? I believe it would. But it does make a person wonder.

Jesus’s love knows no boundaries. He doesn’t build fences to keep people out and away from His love.  We used to sing the song “The Steadfast Love of the Lord” at church. It comes straight out of Lamentations 3:22-23:

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
God’s mercies never come to an end.
They are new every morning, new every morning;
great is your faithfulness, O Lord, great is your faithfulness.”

(The Steadfast Love of the Lord by Edith McNeill)

The Lord is faithful. His mercies are new every morning. When you woke up this morning, His mercies were new again for you. So, let’s strive for steadfast love for others. Show someone a little love today.

Have a great day, everyone.
