“Other seeds fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them.”
(Matthew 13:7 ESV)
“You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes or figs from thistles? So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit. A healthy tree can not bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, you will recognize them by their fruits.”
(Matthew 7:16-20 ESV)
I bought a rose bush last spring. It was planted and promptly got eaten by bugs. I started speaking life to that poor little dead rose bush. A friend showed me the other day that it is living and putting out new shoots on one side.
But I also noticed the thorns on it. God showed me that we also have thorns attached to us. He said that for every unforgiveness, jealousy, anger, harsh words, judging someone or anything that isn’t pleasing to God, causes a thorn on us. It forms a defense for us. It cause us to be prickly towards others. I have noticed it in my life.
There are people who kind of rub me the wrong way. I don’t want to be around them. But those are the people I need to be around. Those are the people who cause thorns on me, but I need to show them the love God has for them. I need to shed the thorns and show God’s love to them. I need to let the love of God shine through the thorns.
So if you have thorns in your life, let God work it out so you, too, can show the love of God through your thorns.
Have a great day, everyone.
