Shifting Shadows

by | Jan 9, 2016 | New Life, Poems

While she was fearing the shadows –
that in her sight loomed larger than life,
she held her back to the truth,
not knowing the shadows were lies.

While she was dealing in shadows –
she wondered why all that she sold and bought,
never appeared to sustain or fulfil her,
but instead kept her longing for more.

While she grasped at shadows –
she watched them dissolve in her hands;
as bargaining with God she tried to be good,
thinking it was the key to absolving her shame.

Until her loneliness became too painful to bear,
and her hunger an ache she couldn’t avoid.
And as she fell to her knees in a shadow world,
she traced a pattern of light across the floor.

Now her faith is based on substance,
as the shadows fall behind her.
She keeps her eyes on the source of the light,
knowing that in the light her fears are unfounded.

Now she deals in light and truth,
and the only promise that she makes,
is in committing her life and heart to Him,
as she creates beauty from her mistakes.

Now she stands on solid ground,
and all that dissolves in her hand,
are the beliefs that prevented her from true connection,
with the Son in whose light she stands.
