The Joy of the Lord

by | Sep 2, 2022 | Joy & Happiness, Strength

“Then he said to them, ‘Go your way. Eat the fat and drink sweet wine and send portions to anyone who has nothing ready, for this day is holy to our Lord. And do not be grieved, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.’”

(Nehemiah 8:10 ESV)

“You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”

(Psalm 16:11 ESV)

I was sitting in my recliner yesterday afternoon, listening to it rain. Again. I should have built an ark. The sky was cloudy when the clouds suddenly parted and the sun came out, briefly. But it made me smile. I had went to Wally World yesterday morning for a few things. When I got home I barely made it to my door. My legs were trying to give out on me while carrying in the groceries. The words “the joy of the Lord is my strength” came to mind. And it’s true. God is my strength and shield. He is taking care of me.

There’s a song called “Joy of the Lord” by Rend Collective:

“The joy of the Lord is my strength.
In the darkness I’ll dance.
In the shadows I’ll sing.
The joy of the Lord is my strength.”

Joy of the Lord by Rend Collective

The Lord is my strength. In darkness I’ll dance and shadows I’ll sing because he is my strength.

God wants to protect us. But do we let Him? Do we let Him watch over us? Or do we go our own way until we are so stuck we can’t move? God doesn’t want that for us anymore than we want it for ourselves. He wants us moving freely so we can do the jobs He wants us doing.

There has been times when I felt like I was sitting spinning my wheels. I was going nowhere fast. Then other times I felt like I was running full speed ahead. But was I doing the things God wanted me too? Not always. God wants us fulfilling our purposes here while there is still time. He wants us all to spread the word while we can.

So what are you doing? Are you in a rut? Time to get out of it and get busy.

Have a great day.
