Prayer Time

by | Sep 2, 2022 | Faith, Prayer, Surrender

“But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.”

(Matthew 6:6 ESV)

“Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.”

(Romans 8:26 ESV)

How do you pray? Is it a long drawn out dialog? Is a shotgun prayer, a short prayer you just throw it out and hope it hits? Or is a sincere, earnest  prayer from your heart?

I really hope it’s the last one. But how many times do we just shoot a quick, “Dear God, bless me and fix my problems. I really could use your help. Thanks. Amen.” I will admit, I have done that before. I’m not proud of it but I have done it. And I imagine you have too.  We get so wrapped up in ourselves and what’s going on in our lives that we get lazy in our prayer time. I need to improve my prayer time. There are times when I think God doesn’t want to hear my problems. I tell Him all the time what I think I need and that He needs to do it. Now! It doesn’t work that way though. We have to do our part. We have to believe and have faith that God will work it out. We have to trust God to do it. Well, here goes. I have my mustard seed of faith and I put my problems into God’s hand to work them out. Now I need to leave them there and let Him fix them.

But I have all too many times, given my problems to God but then because it was taking so long I snatched them back to fix on my own. “Well, I guess God isn’t going to fix this so I will have to do it myself.” You can try.

“Sweet hour of prayer.
Sweet hour of prayer.
That calls me from a world of care.
And bids me at my Father’s throne.
Make all my wants and wishes known.
In seasons of distress and grief,
My soul has often found relief.
And oft escaped the tempter’s snare.
By Thy return, sweet hour of prayer.”

Sweet Hour of Prayer by Thomas Salmon

Have a great day everyone.
