Surviving Loss

by | Jun 18, 2022 | Death, Grief, Supportiveness

“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”

(Psalm 34:18 ESV)

“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

(Revelation 21:4 ESV)

We all lose people we love. But how we handle it speaks of our character. I have lost both of my parents. It was hard with my dad. I wasn’t a daddy’s girl but it still hurt. When my mom passed, I didn’t know how I would handle it. I was a momma’s girl. But by the time she went home, I had grown more in the Lord. I knew Jesus would be beside me supporting me when I needed it. Jesus reassured me I would be fine. He was holding me in His arms as I cleaned out her room at the nursing home. He held me as I went through the visitation and then the funeral. My brothers and I survived relatively unscathed because Jesus was with us.

I’m not saying tears weren’t shed. The nurse and the aid cried with me as we cleaned out her stuff. But Jesus carried me through it. He stayed beside me and gave me strength. And He will you too.

Jesus is the rock. If we have a firm foundation on Him, we can withstand any storm that comes our way because He is right beside us, holding us steady. So how do you cope with loss? Do you suffer through it and hope for the best? Or do you plant your feet on the rock and stand strong?

Jesus is waiting to help you. So if you have suffered a loss, no matter what kind, call on Him. Let Him carry you through it.

Have a blessed day everyone.
