“The LORD said to Moses, ‘Bring the tribe of Levi and present them to Aaron the priest to assist him. They are to perform duties for him and for the whole community at the Tent of Meeting by doing the work of the tabernacle. They are to take care of all the furnishings of the Tent of Meeting, fulfilling the obligations of the Israelites by doing the work of the tabernacle.” (Num 3:5-9)
In our day and age, the thought of performing services for the temple seems kind of outdated, even old-fashioned. But is it? Heb 4:14 says: “Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess.” If we still have a high priest, then are not Levites still in demand? Do we not still need servants to perform services for the High Priest? And just as the Levites were to be fully devoted to the work of the high priest, must we not also be fully devoted to the work of our High Priest, Jesus Christ?
Lord, help us to be true Levites!
