“Meditating” on the Law

by | Jan 16, 2016 | Law of God, WWJD

“Blessed is the man that walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful.  But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in His law does he meditate day and night!” (Ps. 1:1,2)

When I recently reread the first two verses of the book of Psalms, I was reminded that “meditating” on God’s law is something that we are often admonished to do in scripture (Joshua 1:8, Ps. 119:15, 23, 48, 78, 97, 99).  In other texts, we are admonished to “write” the words of the law in various places where we often look (Deut. 11:20, 27:3,8, etc.).  Well, obviously, we don’t literally “write” God’s law on our doorposts, etc., and how can one — honestly now — “meditate” on God’s law day and night???

As I pondered this question, it occurred to me that this is accomplished when we truly try to live by the saying:  “What Would Jesus Do?”  In other words, if we measure each decision, each action, each word out of our mouths, taking utmost care to make sure we are comparing everything by the Word of God, then our actions, decisions, thoughts and words will truly reflect the way Jesus wishes for us to live as outlined in His laws and precepts.

Lord, may I truly “meditate” on your law day and night!  May each of my thoughts, words and actions reflect Your perfect character!

In His love,
Lyn
