LESSONS ON RELATIONSHIP FROM SOLOMON, PART 7: Unit 1: God’s Part of the Relationship, Part B: How Much God Desires to be with Us: His Eyes Feasted on…Me!

by | Nov 21, 2015 | Lessons on Relationships From Solomon (A Mini-Series), Relationship

In last week’s lesson, focusing on Song of Solomon 4:9, we discovered the truth that all we have to do is look in God’s direction for Him to fall in love with us all over again! That’s how much He longs for our company and companionship! Now let’s take a look at what Chap 2, verses 3-4 have to teach us:

“All I want is to sit in his shade, to taste and savor his delicious love. He took me home with him for a festive meal, but his eyes feasted on me! “ (Song 2:3-4 from THE MESSAGE: The Bible in Contemporary Language © 2002 by Eugene H. Peterson. All rights reserved.)

Do you ever wonder, with all the people in the world that God loves, whether or not He sees you as something special? I have. I have spent most of my life believing that God loves me as one of the crowd. After all, I’ve never done anything special. I’m a “spiritual nobody”. But let’s take a look at the second half of this text a little closer: “He took me home with Him for a festive meal, but His eyes feasted on me!”

Imagine that! The God of the universe takes YOU to HIS royal banquet hall for a meal! A feast! But His eyes are not on the beautiful decorations. His attention is not on the other guests. His mind is not on the abundant, delicious food! All of his focus is on YOU! Now that’s not treating you as one in a crowd, as a spiritual “nobody”! Friend, God loves you individually! Not to be shared with others!

In all honesty, I have to admit that when I read the first half of the above text-“All I want is to sit in His shade, to taste and savor His delicious love”-I was left thinking: “how can I reach the point where all I want to do is sit in His presence? I have so much to do, so many people reaching out to me, pulling me in different directions, so many things I want to do . . .” But when I read the second part I felt so special, so loved, so appreciated, so like nothing I had ever experienced on Earth. And as the realization of the depths of God’s special love for me washed over me, I was overwhelmed with the desire to experience this love, to be in the presence of this love. I found myself truly desiring to “sit in His shade”, and to “taste and savor His delicious love”!

Enough to ponder for today. Please DO ponder this though, my friends. Ponder the truth that the God of the Universe loves you individually. He desires to be alone with you. He doesn’t want to share you with others. His eyes are ONLY on YOU! And if you truly spend time meditating on this truth, I promise you that you, too, will want to “sit in His shade, to taste and savor His delicious love”!

Please join us next Saturday for Lessons on Relationships From Solomon, Lesson 8!
