LESSONS FROM ELISHA, PART 15: To the Whole World

by | Nov 21, 2015 | Lessons From Elisha (A Mini-Series), Witnessing

There are MANY lessons to be learned from the prophet Elisha. This is the 15th in a series focusing on the life and works of this great prophet.

“Please let me, your servant, be given as much earth as a pair of mules can carry, for your servant will never again make burnt offerings and sacrifices to any other god but the LORD.”  (2 Kings 5:17-18)

So Naaman, the great commander of the Syrian army, was healed in Israel. Naaman, an idol worshipper from a heathen nation, was allowed to experience the healing power of the God of Israel. He came, he humbled himself, and he was healed. He saw God at work in his life and gave his heart to Him. But notice that the miracle happened BEFORE he gave his heart to the Lord.

Why? Why would God choose to heal a heathen, an enemy of Israel, BEFORE he had even given his heart to Him?

The answer lies in 2 Kings 15:17,18: “Please let me, your servant, be given as much earth as a pair of mules can carry, for your servant will never again make burnt offerings and sacrifices to any other god but the LORD.”

Naaman wanted to bring the worship of the True God back to Damascus! God desires for ALL to learn about Him. He choose a heathen idol worshipper to be the recipient of His healing touch so that the people of Syria would have the opportunity to learn about Him!

Isn’t it just like the God of Heaven to care enough for ALL people to orchestrate something like this so that the lost, even the enemies of His people, might have the opportunity to come to Him?
