Flat-Earthers of our Day

by | Jan 3, 2015 | Wisdom

It seems to be a common belief that you must have a high degree of education to have any credibility. The opinions of skilled amateurs or anyone not taught at Universities are usually scorned.

It amuses me because it was only academes who were taught to read and write. Therefore it was only academics who taught and published that the earth was held aloft on the shoulders of the mythical god, Atlas, and only academics taught that gods and goddesses inhabited the world.

Nobody knows whether ordinary working people believed the theory or not.

The Bible was locked away and accessed only by academics or the politically correct. At some stage, they came to believe and teach that the earth was flat.

Ordinary people never believed such nonsense because they had too much common sense.

Today those same academics who have been taught at religious schools and universities will ridicule you if you believe the Bible and live by its teachings. They will ridicule you as a “flat-earther” because of your beliefs.

Did you know that a similar theory existed even in the time of Jesus? Jesus was home-schooled as were most Jewish children and Scriptural Jewish beliefs were their text book

When Jesus was twelve years old he spent several days with the doctors, “both hearing them and asking them questions.” (Luke 2:46).  Doctors were the teachers, or masters, of education in their day and they “were astonished at his understanding and answers.” (Luke 2:47)

In other words, the so-called uneducated, home-schooled lad, Jesus, could teach them a thing or two!

Nothing has changed. If your beliefs are different from accepted teachings, it is academics who will ridicule you as a “flat-earther.” But the highly educated Paul read and understood the Old Testament because of Christ. He encourages you do the same and also to do some thinking because “God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise.” (1 Cor 1:27)

Jesus himself said, “I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes,” (Matthew 11:25).
