“Follow my decrees and be careful to obey my laws, and you will live safely in the land. Then the land will yield its fruit, and you will eat your fill and live there in safety.” Lev. 25:18.
Did you ever read the book of Leviticus from start to finish? Do this, don’t do that. Say this, worship here, don’t say that or worship over there . . . A dull book of outdated laws! Then one day the Holy Spirit spoke to me out of Lev. 25, and I realized that what I was reading wasn’t a book of rules, but an ancient guide to happiness and success!
God knew what would separate the Children of Israel from His power, and He warned them against it. He knew that if they obeyed His laws, He would be free to bless them with safety, long life, prosperity, and plenty of food; but if they disobeyed, His hands would be tied!
Isn’t it the same with the list of “dos and don’ts” we still have today? You know – “Do” honor your parents; “Don’t” kill or worship any other Gods; “Do” keep the Sabbath . . . You’ve heard them all before. We can look upon these as just a list of rules, or we can try to understand that God can only bless us to His maximum potential when we turn away from sin and let Him be in command of our lives! With this attitude, the 10 commandments are no longer a list of rules, but a “how to” guide for happiness and success!
