Hymns Vs. New Songs

by | Mar 28, 2025 | Praise

“Oh, come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!

(Psalm 95:1 ESV)

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns, and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.”

(Colossians 3:16 ESV)

Have you ever wondered what happened to the old hymns we grew up on? What happened to the hymnals that were on the pews? What happened to the  pews?

Last question first. Where did all the pews go? Church’s now seem to have gone to chairs instead of pews. I grew up sitting on those pews. They were just slick enough that you could slide on them, not that I would. Lol. Along with the pews, the hymnals went, too. I miss those books. They were full of the old, very anointed hymns.

Don’t get me wrong. There are some really great new songs out there. But nothing can beat The Old Rugged Cross or Amazing Grace. Or It Is Well and Power in The Blood. Those are great songs, and I have found myself singing them  around home. Those moments, I feel so close to Jesus.

Next time you find yourself alone and Jesus seems far away, pull out an old hymn. Sing it to Jesus. He is there waiting for you to call on Him.

Have a great day, everyone.
