“Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.”
(Colossians 4:6 ESV)
“You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet.”
(Matthew 5:13 ESV)
I have heard the expression they’re the salt of the earth many times. But I never truly understood what it meant. So I googled it. Here is what I found. Webster dictionary describes it as “a very good and honest person or group of people.”
I guess you could say Jesus was the salt of the earth. I know of anyone who was more honest than He was. I know there are good people, but sometimes they are few and far between. Most people get frustrated and show the wrong side. They can be very unkind to others.
From what I know about Jesus, we could all take a few lessons from Him on how to act. He was kind-hearted to the less fortunate. He loved people. He hung around with the lower class. They needed Him, so that’s where He spent time.
We need to be like Jesus. Hang around with people who need to know about Him. Teach them the love Jesus has for everyone. Bring in the lost. Shine your light for others to see. Show them the way to eternity in heaven.
Let’s strive to be the salt of the earth and love our fellow humans. Be like Jesus. Don’t turn people away just because their clothes aren’t the latest style, or they may be a little dirty. Love on the instead.
Have a blessed day, everyone.
