Survivor

by | Oct 10, 2023 | Parenting

“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places”

(Ephesians 6:12 ESV)

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

(2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV)

Google defines a survivor as “a person who survives, especially a person remaining alive after an event in which others have died.”

I consider myself a survivor. I have lived close to 7 decades. Yeah, it makes me sound really old. Sometimes I feel old, but most of the time, I don’t. I am 68 years old, by the way. Just before anyone guesses and makes me older than I am. I look back on my life and realize I have lived through a lot. I had 2 brothers and a cousin in the Viet Nam war. All survived. I remember kindergarten. I learned to tie my shoes, how to count and my a, b, c’s. Nowadays, kids have to already know all that, plus their address and parents’ phone number. And who knows what else.

In 1st grade, I learned to read with Dick and Jane books. It was not a very riveting story, but I learned to read and write. But my love of God came in the basement of the First Pentecostal Church. I always looked forward to Sunday morning to see who we would learn about. My favorite story was and still is about Joseph. His life fascinated me for some reason. But I learned all about God and how great He is. Parents, teach your children about the love God has for them.

Teach them about Him and how they can survive the wickedness of the world with His help. Teach your children right from wrong, respect for others. Teach them to love others and not be bullies Most of all parents, love your kids. They learn survival skills from you. Teach them what they need to know. Teach them well. They learn by observation. Be a good example.

Have a blessed day.
