“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”
(Matthew 7:24-27 ESV)
“For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”
(1 Corinthians 3:11 ESV)
Bible dictionaries define foundation as “Christ’s teaching is compared to a rock solid foundation” (See Matthew 7:24; Luke 6:48 ). Foundation serves as a metaphor for the initial preaching of the Gospel (See Romans 15:20; Hebrews 6:1-2 which outlines the foundational topics), for the apostles and prophets as the first generation of preachers (See Ephesians 2:20; compare Revelation 21:14, 21:19 ); and for Christ as the content of preaching (See 1 Corinthians 3:10-11).”
A foundation is a load-bearing part of a building. But we also have a foundation in life. That is God. God is our rock. When we build on the Rock, it doesn’t matter how strong the storm is. We won’t be moved. We can withstand whatever is thrown at us.
“On Christ the solid rock I stand.
(My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less by Edward Mote)
All other ground is sinking sand.”
Where is your foundation? On Christ the solid rock? Or sinking sand?
Have a great day, everyone.
