Types of Prayer

by | Nov 10, 2021 | Intercession, Prayer

“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.” (1 John 5:14 ESV)

“And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.” (Ephesians 6:18 ESV)

While researching this I found an article that lists 5 different types of prayers. I just want to talk about one: Intercessory prayer.

What is intercessory prayer? Intercessory prayer is, my definition, where you pray for someone else. Whether it’s because they are sick or in need of something, they have asked you to pray for them, so you do, I hope. I send out prayer requests for my church. People tell me what they want prayer for and I text it out. I’m retired so I have the time to do it and I don’t mind at all. While I am sending them out, I am praying.

Intercessors don’t just pray for people. They also pray for places and things. Even pets, they are like family anyway so why not pray for our pets?

Intercessors stand in the gap for others. According to Your Dictionary on google, it means, “To expose oneself for the protection of something; to make a defence against any assailing danger; to take the place of a fallen defender or supporter.”

The next question would be how do we stand in the gap?

We pray for them. See, when we pray for someone we are engaging in spiritual warfare on their behalf. An article I read said that when you pray for someone, plead the blood of Jesus over you and them. It’s by Jesus shedding his blood that we have authority over things of earth and spiritual things. Pray aloud the promises from God. But just because you don’t see immediate results, doesn’t mean God isn’t going to take care of it.

Remember everything is in God’s timing, not ours. So don’t stop praying.

God bless you all and have a blessed day.
