Life Expectancy

by | Jun 23, 2021 | Death, Gods Time, Heaven

“Then the Lord said, ‘My Spirit shall not abide in men forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.'” (Genesis 6:3 ESV)

“Yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then disappears.” (James 4:14 ESV)

When I was a little kid, I would look at my grandparents and think they are really old. In reality, they were only in their 60’s. Now that I am in my 60’s, that’s not so old. People expect to live a long life and if God allows it, they will.

My Grandpa Lueker passed away when I was 5. Mom told me I was his favorite. It helped that I was the only small grandchild at the time too. I wish I could have gotten to know him. Mom said he was a wonderful man, kind, loving, a great gardener and carpenter.

I did get to know my grandma Lueker. Exact opposite of grandpa but I loved her.

My grandpa Keller passed away on a Sunday morning. I had left after Sunday school to go help grandma with lunch. I had to call the church to get mom and dad out. Not a great day. He barely made it to the hospital before passing away. He was in his early 80’s. He was a quiet man. Loved kids but wouldn’t hold a baby until they were potty trained.

Grandma took delight in the many grandchildren. She passed away at 102. She was well on her way to fulfilling Genesis 6:3. Eighteen more years and she would have made it.

My dad’s siblings were all in their late 80’s or early 90’s when they passed, but dad was 79. Our days are numbered. Only God knows when we will be called home. Are you ready? If God called you home right now, are you ready? Do you know without a shadow of a doubt that you would go to heaven? Think about it. You think the last few days were hot? Think again. Eternal fire and torment. Nope. I’m going up to heaven. Look me up if you get there. I’ll be playing with the kids.
