Set Me on Fire, Lord

by | Mar 11, 2021 | Priority, Treasures

Fire shall be burning on the altar continually; it shall not go out.” (Leviticus 6:13 ESV)

“John answered them all, saying, ‘I baptize you with water, but he who is mighter than I is coming, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.'”
(Luke 3:16 ESV)

“Fire, the Holy fire It’s the fire we need today.
Fire, the Holy fire Send it down oh Lord we pray.
Fire, the Holy fire Burns away all sin and dross
Send it down oh Lord
We need another Pentecost
Send it down oh Lord
We need another Pentecost.”

I can almost guarantee those of us who know this song just sang it. Are you on fire for God? Have you ever been? It’s a great feeling.

But there comes a time when most of us let the world drag us down. Something comes along to take our focus off of God. Then it seems like we just can’t get back to where we were. But we really do need to.

Let’s talk about the above song. I looked up the meaning of dross. According to google, thank God for google, it means “something regarded as worthless, rubbish.” So does that mean we have worthless things in us? Yep. Pretty much.

For instance, temper. When you get mad and scream at someone. Or say words you really shouldn’t. We all know what words so I won’t get into them. Or how about, “It’s just a little white lie.” Is there really any such thing? A lie is still a lie and lying is still a sin. What about while shopping you start eating the grapes? That is stealing if you haven’t paid for them.

All of these could be dross in your life if you haven’t repented and asked God’s forgiveness. So get rid off the dross in your life. Ask God to sent you on fire for him again. Let your fire burn for the world to see. The world needs more people on fire for God.

My prayer today is to be on fire for God. Lord send the fire. Set us on fire for you, Lord.
