“Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. As it is written: ‘He has scattered abroad his gifts to the poor; his righteousness endures forever.’ Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of God’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, men will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else.” (2 Cor 9:6-13)
The reason we are being blessed with material blessings so that we can bless others and spread the Word, the Gospel. That coupled with the Scripture that says, “To whom much is given, much will be expected” (paraphrase, mine) tells us about what we are to do with the “profits” of our gifts/work — the same thing other Christians are expected to do with the profit they get — to sow into the Kingdom, to be generous to a fault, to be cheerful and hilarious in our giving even, “that we are enriched in every way for great generosity which through us will produce thanksgiving to God “(verse 11).
God bless you if your talent and connections give you money for your work and for your gifts (which are all God-given anyway – every good and perfect gift comes down from Heaven, from the Father of Lights, with Whom there is no shadow of turning!!!); use them in turn for His work, for His glory, not for Your own.
And if a song doesn’t bring a “material reward”, it’s very possible that it can bless another by ministering to them, and so that brings glory to Him too. These are all “gifts from Him” and we are only stewards; so we must act as the good stewards did in the parable, not hiding them in the ground. It takes money to keep producing the songs, to buy the instruments, to eat to feed the vocal chords, the hands that stroke the guitars and beat the drums! Get real, but don’t get greedy, and God will use you and bless you mightily, whether in this world or the next!
