Lord, I’m not Worthy! A Scriptural Nugget for Maundy Thursday

by | Nov 21, 2015 | Communion

In many churches this Thursday, Christians will observe two things: foot-washing, and Holy Communion. Both of these are an example of Christ’s love for us.

“So during the meal, Jesus got up, removed his outer garment, and wrapped a towel around his waist. He put some water into a large bowl. Then he began washing is disciples’ feet and drying them with the towel he was wearing.” (John 13:4-5 CEV)

If our Lord loves us so much that He chose to serve, instead of being served, we ought to do the same.

“He took some bread in his hands. Then after he had given thanks, he broke it and said “This is my body, which is given for you. Eat this and remember me. ” After the meal, Jesus took a cup of wine in his hands and said, “This is my blood, and with it God makes his new agreement with you. Drink this and remember me.” (I Corinthians 11:23-25)

Regardless of the various denominational beliefs about communion, there is one thing we have in common here: God invites us to His own table.

Sometimes, like the disciples, we may feel like we have no need for a spiritual “foot-washing” While non of us are deserving of God’s love, He loves us and invites us to share the love with others.

“Lord, we are not worthy to receive You, but only say the word, and we shall be healed.” Amen.

In His love from your sister in Christ,
