Our world is becoming increasingly dangerous and insecure. Crime against humanity is on the fast lane. It appears that those involved in these heinous crimes are getting bold and bolder in their wicked act. It also appears that the United Nations Security Council is becoming a lame duck and incapable of arresting the dangerous trend of terror. In spite of the elaborate efforts worldwide for security, people still live in fear, sleeping with one of their eyes open to check activities around them. In a desperate bid to halt the ominous drift, communities and nations resort to harsh laws that violate the human rights of the common man. Winds of disaster and terror are blowing across states, nations and continents. The spate of terror worldwide is alarming.
As we hear the news of terror activities in different parts of the world, one wonders how these hoodlums easily break into government fortifications and elite corridors. There are no more “sacred” areas for them.
Reading through the newspapers, we can see the cases of human rituals, murders and kidnaps etc. Man’s hearts has begun to fail him because of the volume of bad news we hear every day. Therefore, we need a place of refuge and protection. We need more than assurance from governments of the world.
What is our hope? God is our hope! Nobody can afford to live without utter dependence on God in times like this. God is our refuge and strength. (Ps 46:1) “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” The Almighty God has the capacity to keep His own. Even, if it means mobilizing the whole hosts of heaven to protect one of His children, He will do it. Some people run to the “bomohs”, witch doctors or evil spirit agents for something to protect them in the form of a charm or a talisman. They want something they can tuck into their pockets or put up on their doorposts. They go to all these agents of evil spirits to be protected without knowing that the bomohs and witch doctors themselves cannot even protect or deliver themselves. Any refuge outside Jesus Christ is nothing but lies and deception. The Bible declares: (Isa 28:17) “Also I will make justice the measuring line, and righteousness the plummet; the hail will sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters will overflow the hiding place.” This means if you forsake the Lord by trying to find a hiding place outside Christ, hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies. The waters of judgment, like the flood of Genesis, will overflow false hiding places. How dare you go to a messenger of Satan in the name of seeking protection? Can a loyal messenger oppose his master?
Those who depend on their fellow human beings for protection are like those who lean on war threads. Those who consult occultic men and women have only sold themselves as captives and would be taken by will by the devil.
However, God has made provisions for those who genuinely seek a place of refuge in Him. Beloved, today, Jesus Christ is the sure refuge for every man. Those who believe and put their trust in Him will be secure from all harm. (Prov 18:10) “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.” The name and the blood of Jesus work wonders for those who put their faith in Him.
