How to Let go of Resentment

by | Jan 3, 2015 | Comfort, Forgiveness

“This is the third and final notice,” the message said. “Your backup system is three weeks overdue.”

My muscles got a bit tense. That meant if my computer crashed, with no back up, I’d lose what I stored in it? All the book manuscripts that took me years to write. Gone?

That could happen to my computer, but not to me. Years ago, I had the perfect storing system. I stored bad feelings, hurt feelings, wounds and filed them in a never-forget folder. And since I backed them up with resentment, no chance to lose them.

Have you ever done that? We store the wrong things, and our joy slows down. Our prayer is hindered. Our nights are restless. Our days rough and the future looks gloomy.

How about releasing that stored-up junk? Living free, living clean…“And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.” (Mark 11:25).

Father, thank you for showing me that forgiving and letting go of the hurt from the past is what brings freedom back. Thank you for the wisdom to refuse to back it up with bitterness, hatred or antipathy. I count on your cleansing power. In Jesus’ name, amen.

• What does your heart store these days?

• How does it affect your life?

• What will you do to clean up the junk that clogs your happiness?
