Purpose, not Circumstance

by | Oct 18, 2014 | Circumstance

“That night all the people of the community raised their voices and wept aloud. All the Israelites grumbled against Moses and Aaron, and the whole assembly and said to them, ‘If only we had died in Egypt! Or in this desert! Why is the Lord bringing us to this land only to let us fall by the sword?'” (Numbers 14:1-3)

Sometimes we get whiny with God when things don’t go the way we think that they should. Disappointments will come to each of us. More important than the circumstance is our reaction to it. It is easy to seek out an excuse to be angry and place blame for the things that happen in life instead of looking beyond ourselves and our immediate comfort and seeing quite possibly something grander occurring. Self-pity distracts us from the fulfillment of what God desires to bring to our lives. If we find ourselves caught up in it we may also find ourselves wondering in the wilderness. It is not about us.

Prayer

I surrender all to you, my disappointments, attitudes, hopes and dreams. Open my eyes that I may see that through You each day and every situation there is hope for a new beginning. Help me to remain focused on Your purpose instead of the circumstance, Amen.
