“For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God”. (Romans 3:23)
My computer and I have a ‘love/hate’ relationship. I love it when the computer works and hate it when it doesn’t. Recently Prof. Computer gave up the ghost completely making it necessary for me to purchase a new one.
My son-in-law wanted me to also purchase System Mechanic7 and a virus program to put on my new computer, saying that these two items would greatly improve the computer’s operations over the years. I followed his suggestion and installed both on my new computer.
What can we learn about God and the Christian walk from a computer? This is what ‘Professor’ Computer has taught me:
The virus program is much like the Holy Spirit. I didn’t know until this program was installed that several times a day other “users” were trying to ‘hack into’ my computer! The virus program frustrates the effort and thus unknown others are now unable to get into my computer databases. The Holy Spirit does much the same thing in my life. Satan is busy with his purpose to get everyone to sin and fall away from God. The Holy Spirit – if we invite Him into our lives – will prevent Satan’s invasion. Unlike the virus program that works all of the time, the Holy Spirit works on invitation only; He doesn’t automatically keep us from sinning!
System Mechanic 7 is something like God the Father. God has promised to make our sins as white as snow. During the normal operation of a computer, little scraps of this or that will clutter up the hard drive, and System Mechanic 7 will clean all these bits and pieces off and leave only the good stuff behind. If we ask Him to do so, God will do the same for our hearts and minds. He will forgive our sins, clean out all the clutter, and leave us with a clean new page. There is a difference here, too. God doesn’t force himself upon us. It has to be our decision to invite Him into our hearts and lives. Remember: “Though your sins are as scarlet I will make them white as snow.” (Isaiah 1:18). He is just waiting for us to ask.
I have learned that the best way to insure that God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit are in my life is to read the Word and pray daily. I talk to my friends, and the more we chat, the better acquainted we become. So it is with our walk with God. The more we pray, the closer we walk, the better acquainted we become, and the more we know His will for our lives.
Friends, let us ALL install God and the Holy Spirit in our lives, so that, like our computers, we will have uncluttered minds and God will be able to work through us.
