LESSONS ON RELATIONSHIP FROM SOLOMON, PART 4: Unit 1: GOD’s Part in the Relationship, Part A: How God Sees us: A Lotus Blossoming in a Swamp of Weeds

by | Nov 21, 2015 | Lessons on Relationships From Solomon (A Mini-Series), Relationship

In last week’s lesson, focusing on Song of Solomon 6:8,9, we discovered the truth that when you’ve given your heart to Jesus, He sees you as pure and innocent, unique and perfect. Now let’s take a look at what Chap 2:1-2 has to teach us about how God sees us:

“The Woman: ‘I’m just a wildflower picked from the plains of Sharon, a lotus blossom from the valley pools.’ The Man: ‘A lotus blossoming in a swamp of weeds – that’s my dear friend among the girls in the village.'” (Song of Solomon 2:1-2 from THE MESSAGE: The Bible in Contemporary Language © 2002 by Eugene H. Peterson. All rights reserved.)

We’ve all heard the expression, “A rose among thorns”. Some of you have been in the situation where you truly felt like YOU were the rose among the thorns. Others of you may have always felt that you were the THORNS surrounding the rose. You may have grimly wondered what it might be like to be considered as “the rose”! You may have even thought these thoughts between gritted teeth, truly believing that NO ONE will EVER see YOU as “a rose among thorns”.

If you’ve been in situations where you have felt like you were the “rose”, then you may already have an idea just how special it makes you feel to have someone consider you the best of the crowd. You will probably fully appreciate the fact that God sees you: “a lotus blossoming in a swamp of weeds”!

But if you’ve the one who has always felt like you were the “thorn”, good news! In God’s eyes, you are NOT! You are the SPECIAL one! YOU are the ROSE: “a lotus blossoming in a swamp of weeds”!

Let’s take this a step farther. The Song of Solomon is God’s song to you. No matter what you’ve done, no matter how bad you may consider yourself, God stands, like the father of the prodigal son, waiting for you to turn back to Him. And the MOMENT you do, He shouts! He sings! He throws a party! He forgives you totally and completely, He gives you His robe of righteousness, and in His eyes it is as if you have never strayed. You are, truly, “a lotus blossoming in a swamp of weeds” (Song 2:2 THE MESSAGE).

Enough to ponder for today. Please DO ponder this though, my friends. Ponder the truth that no matter what you’ve done, no matter who you are, no matter how great or insignificant, wicked or holy, once you’ve accepted Jesus into your heart, you are, in His eyes, like a “lotus blossoming in a swamp of weeds”! Also remember that He sees you as beautiful and as innocent and perfect as the day you were born! And if that’s how much God sees you, then take advantage of it! Make Him happy by spending regular time with Him!

Please join us next Saturday for Lessons on Relationships From Solomon, Lesson 5, to learn just how much God desires to be with us!

In His love,
