“Let each of you look not only to his own interests but also to the interests of others.”
(Philippians 2:4 ESV)
“Do not neglect to do good, and to share what you have, for such sacrifices, is pleasing to God.”
(Hebrews 13:16 ESV)
“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”
(Galatians 6:2 ESV)
Have you ever needed just a little help? Have you ever helped someone else?
I have been in both situations. As I get older, my body just doesn’t do what it used to as easily or at all.
Let me tell you a story. I needed help yesterday. My car was semi buried from the sidewalk being cleaned and the roads being cleared. We have a very nice homeless guy who hangs around. He borrowed my neighbors shovel and cleared a path for me. He doesn’t expect anything, but I try to help him when I can. So he helped me, and I was able to slip him a little soda and cigarette money. Was I right to give this guy money? I say yes because I know what he spends it on. But we are supposed to help others. We are supposed to encourage others.
In John 13:15, Jesus sets an example for us to follow. After washing His disciples’ feet, an act of love, humility, and service. He encourages us to follow His lead and serve one another: “I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you,” (ESV) Jesus says.
I’m not saying you have to go around washing people’s feet. I’m saying help where and when you can. If you see a need, help if you can. It doesn’t have to be money. Sow food, clothes, time. Sow time by talking to people about Jesus. People are hungry. Lead them to the Lord. It will be time well spent.
Have a blessed day, everyone.
