“Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger…”
(James 1:19 ESV)
“If one gives an answer before he hears, it is his folly and shame.”
(Proverbs 18:13 ESV)
People have gotten so busy that they don’t stop long enough to just talk to someone. Put your phone down and talk to someone. People need to interact with others.
I can’t tell you how many times someone has almost run into me somewhere because they were on the phone. And I don’t mean in a car. I mean in a store. People think they have to be on their phone constantly. Spoiler alert…you don’t!
After sending out my devotional yesterday, I suddenly realized I never saw that man leave the automotive department. He had to go past me to get out. Was he an angel trying to tell me something? I think so. And he did get a message through to me. Put your phone down and talk to people. Time is short. Get to know people. Let people get to know you. Tell people about God. That gentleman yesterday told me his life story in 15 minutes. While I do not know his name, it was interesting to listen to him.
Now that I am older, I wish I had taken time to just sit down and have my grandparents and parents tell me what it was like for them growing up. A lot of family history is lost because the younger generation just doesn’t want to take the time to listen. I confess I was one of the younger generation once. I thought the stories were boring and I didn’t have time for them. I was wrong. Just think if no one listened and the Bible didn’t get written. What a loss for all of us that would have been.
I want to encourage each of you to stop a few minutes from your busy life and listen to some family history. You might be surprised at what you might learn.
Have a great day, everyone.
