“To put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.”
(Ephesians 4:22-24 ESV)
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
(2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV)
There is something I say when things stay the same. “Same old same old.”
Usually, when I am stuck, God reminds me of this scripture: “You have made your way around this hill country long enough; now turn north.” (Deuteronomy 2:3 NIV) Then I know for sure I have missed it, and it’s time to seek more of the things God has for me. There are times I let the cares of the world get me down. It could be just any little thing, finances, my car, health, or whatever. I know that God is trying to get my undivided attention when He gives me that verse. I don’t mean to get distracted. But it happens to all of us at one time or another.
God has great things for each of us. But when we take our focus off of Him even for a second, we can stop things from flowing. We can stop blessings just by being too focused on ourselves. There are times I just don’t feel like reading my Bible. But I do because I need to. I need to be in the word to keep my focus.
It’s time to change our ways. It’s time to focus more on God than the world. It’s time to turn north. We’ve circled this mountain long enough. Once you stop circling the same mountain, you will feel better. Then you can say, “It is well with my soul,” and mean it.
Have a great day.
