Contentment

by | Jul 18, 2023 | Contentment, Godliness, Heaven

“Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance, and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:11-13 ESV)

“But godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these, we will be content.” (1 Timothy 6:6-8 ESV)

I was in my car yesterday when the song “What If” came on. It talked about what if today were my last day. I got to thinking about that. Would I be missed? Would people just remember me as a passing thought?

I have been going through some health issues that, if it gets worse, could possibly end up with me gone on home. I, personally, would not mind that. But it’s not my time yet. But death has been on my mind lately. I look around me and think of the things that I have that someone will have to go through and decide what to do with. The things I have, my possessions, are important to me but won’t be to someone else.

But that’s the thing. They are just things. But these “things” are mine. They have brought me peace, joy, and contentment. But there is one possession that I have that brings me the most contentment every time I pick it up. That thing is my Bible. I read it every day. By reading my Bible, I find contentment far beyond what any material object can bring. By reading my Bible, I find myself getting closer to God. That brings me the most contentment, being closer to my Heavenly Father.

I am not afraid of dying. I actually look forward to my Heavenly home. There, I will have a type of contentment not found here. I will be home. In heaven, there will be no problems. Just peace and contentment.

Have a blessed day, everyone.
