One Day at a Time

by | Dec 21, 2021 | Christmas, Priority, Time

“And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:7 ESV)

“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.” (Isaiah 26:3 ESV)

I saw this on Facebook last night:

“When things feel too overwhelming remember:
* One day at a time
* One task at a time
* One thought at a time
* One moment at a time

Facebook quote

We all try to do everything at once. We don’t get it that if we just slow down a bit, we could accomplish more. God is trying to tell us today to relax, chill out. He has this handled. He is in control.

Christmas is just a few days away now. We should be celebrating the birth of Jesus. But instead, we tend to run around like crazy, trying to do everything ourselves.

I have been the same way. I stress myself out trying to buy presents for loved ones, baking a ton and a half of cookies and candy to give as gifts. Oh, I know. People look forward to the steady stream of Christmas movies and songs. But again, that is not what the season is supposed to be about. It’s time we focus people. Focus on Jesus. Focus on salvation. Without salvation, you will be spending eternity on fire. And I don’t mean in a good way.

It’s time to decide what we want to do. As for me, I desire peace while I am here and the promise of heaven when my days are done. I am learning I can’t do the things I used to do. I am thankful for the things I can still do though. But if I just take things slow, one day at a time, one task at a time, I can get things done.

And Jesus is always with me, holding my hand, helping me to walk. Helping me through each day. I ask Jesus daily to “take my hand and walk with me. I can’t take a step without you.” Nor do I want to. So if you find yourself in the middle of the hurry, hurry part of the season, remember you don’t have to be. Take a deep breath, relax and let go.

Have a blessed day.
