Scars From Heaven

by | Sep 22, 2021 | Comfort, Death, Grief, Heaven

“We love because he first loved us.” (1 John 4:19 ESV)

“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.” (John 15:12 ESV)

I took my monthly road trip this morning. I was thinking about some dear friends who lost a loved one this week, when this song came on. It’s called Scars In Heaven by Casting Crowns. Here is the chorus:

“The only scars in heaven, they won’t belong to me and you.
There’ll be no such thing as broken, and all the old will be made new.
And the thought that makes me smile now, even as the tears fall down.
Is that the only scars in heaven are on the hands that hold you now.”

I lost my parents years ago. Dad and I weren’t that close, but Mom and I were. So it didn’t hurt as bad when Dad died. But when Mom finally went home to heaven, it hurt. I wasn’t sure I would get through the funeral without falling apart. But I did.

Yeah, there were a few tears shed, but more smiles than tears. I had such a peace come over me. I knew Mom was home. I knew she was exactly where she wanted to be. I know she doesn’t hurt anymore. She doesn’t get sick or tired anymore.

But the one thing that brings me peace even today, I will be there too one day.

So to my dear friends. Today, may you be filled with peace, knowing your daughter is being held by Jesus.

Have a blessed day.
