“The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.” (Psalm 145:18 NKJV)
I was listening to some of the old time hymns last night. They are great. While listening it made me feel closer to God. There’s just something about the old hymns I grew up with.
I’m not bashing the current gospel music. There’s a lot of songs that are really good. But the old hymns, “Standing on The Promises”, “When We All Get to Heaven”, “The Old Rugged Cross”. These are some of the ones I listened to.
I got to thinking about it. That’s what God wants. He wants us to draw closer to Him. He will send things to inspire us to draw near to Him. It could be a song, a picture or a beautiful sunrise or sunset.
I remember when I was still working in the office outside of town. My boss wasn’t there that day. I was alone when I smelled something. I smelled my grandma. It was a combination of Vick’s salve and Ben Gay. But it was grandma’s smell. It was a reassuring smell from my childhood. God sent it to me to draw me closer. I had been worried about something but when I caught a whiff of a childhood smell, I felt God close by reassuring me that all was well.
For me, it’s the little things that make me realize God is longing for me to draw closer. It’s time for me to set my eyes more firmly on Him and draw closer. Time is short and we all need to draw closer to God before it’s too late. Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus before it’s too late.
