Spending Time Together

by | Jan 16, 2016 | Prayer

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.” (Eph 6:18)

Come, Holy Spirit, guide us in your gentle way to pray.  Help us express our deepest yearnings and recognize your presence in our lives.  Amen.

Imagine having a friend who lives nearby but with whom you seldom speak. What if the two of you never spend time together? You wouldn’t be doing much to maintain a relationship, would you? Christians have a personal relationship with God through his Son Jesus. Our relationship with God is similar, in some ways, to our relationships with other people. For example, communication is an important element of the relationship. We need to speak to God, we need to listen to him, and we need to spend time together. We can pray wherever we are, but having a certain time and place for prayer can be helpful because that gives us a regular opportunity to “check in ” with God. When we take time for prayer, our relationship with God can grow.  Prayer is raising of one mind and heart to God. He who humbles himself will be exalted. Humility is the key of prayer.

If your heart is far from God, the words of prayer are in vain. The heart is the dwelling place. Jesus often drew apart to pray in solitude, on a mountain, preferably at night. In your time together, you need more strength to face life, if you want to be more like God and have a closer relationship with Him. Prayer is your answer. Just go to your prayer closet and pay a visit with God!
