God Never Changes

by | Mar 5, 2026 | Change, Faithfulness, Promises

It’s no secret that everything around us is constantly changing. The weather is always shifting gears, as evident by the fact that yesterday was warm, bright, and sunny, and today it’s snowing so hard that I’m trying to remember what I did with my snow shovel despite spring’s arrival. Relationships change, and people change—our possessions change, and our thoughts are ever-changing, maybe even our promises. My waistline has also changed the older I get, and I now have to go up a size when shopping for pants. No doubt you are dealing with your own legion of changes.

On a positive note, did you know that God does not change, ever!

And with that truth, we can give thanks to Him in a world where change is inevitable—some changes beneficial, and some, not so much. Change is oftentimes out of our control, and sometimes, the changes we experience are a direct result of our own choices. I did a quick Google search about God never changing and was instantly rewarded with a load of Bible verses to support the truth of God never changing.

Here are a few shorter, easy-to-remember verses:

“I the Lord do not change. So you, the descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed.” (Malachi 3:7 NIV)

“But because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood.” (Hebrews 7:24 NIN)

You and I can totally and unequivocally depend on God to never change, even when it may feel that everything around is coming unglued. Jesus is the same yesterday and today and forever. His promises never fail, and His love for us is unchanging. He forgives us today, and He will forgive us tomorrow. Our salvation is guaranteed when we place our faith and trust in Jesus Christ and when we ask Him into our hearts and into our lives.

“God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?” (Numbers 23:19 NIV)

In a world that is always experiencing change, this verse reminds us of God’s unwavering truthfulness and that He is incapable of deception or being untruthful like human beings are notorious for. God does not experience regret, nor does He change His mind on a whim like humans do. God’s word to us in the Bible is always steadfast, and He always acts upon His promises. In a nutshell, my friend, God’s truthfulness and faithfulness are central to His character. Personally, I cannot think of anything better to latch onto when worldly change is constant and people cannot always be trusted.

As I look out my patio door window and watch the snow continue to fall, I take great comfort in knowing that as things change, even the weather, God is the rock-solid constant in my life, and He is in yours too. You can depend on Him to keep His promises and never change. Isn’t that the sort of bedrock you want under your feet?

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8 NIV)
