“So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.” (James 4:17 ESV)
“But Peter and the apostles answered, ‘We must obey God rather than men.'” (Acts 5:29 ESV)
Have you ever been told not to do something? Then you did it just because you were told not to? Or maybe you were told how to do something because it would be easier? But did it your way anyway? Well, Wednesday I did something because I was told not to. My neighbor gave me a box of chocolate covered cherries with the instructions to eat only 1 a day. I ate almost the whole box Wednesday night. But they were so good.
How many times has God told you not to do something but you went ahead and did it anyway? I can’t tell you how many times I have. God really does have our best interest at heart but since He gave us free will, we can make our own choices.
One of those choices…do I follow God or the world? Spoiler alert… following God is the smart choice. God will never lead you astray. The devil will, every time he gets a chance, he will lead you down a road that leads away from God.
Google defines defiance as, “Open resistance; bold disobedience.”
So when we are defiant to what God wants we are being boldly disobedient. That doesn’t make God very happy. Remember when your kids were young and testing your limits? They were being boldly disobedient. But you loved them anyway. God loves you anyway too. Just because we get defiant occasionally doesn’t mean God will stop loving us. He may not like us very much until we change our ways, but he will always love us. So if you have been acting out, being defiant, repent. God will gladly accept your apology.
Have a great day and Happy New Year. Stay safe if you’re getting out tonight.
