My name is Markus Klinger,
And this is my story—
A life filled with questions,
With sadness and glory.
I’ve tried to walk faithfully,
I’ve tried to believe,
I’ve prayed through the darkness,
I’ve begged to receive.
I’ve spoken to Jesus
With tears in my eyes,
Asking for answers
To life’s cruelest whys.
I’ve carried disappointments
That nobody sees,
And wrestled with sorrow
Down upon my knees.
I’ve wanted to be stronger.
I’ve wanted to be whole.
I’ve wanted the Holy Spirit
To completely take control.
I’ve said, “Where are You, Lord?
I desperately need You!”
When temptation was calling
And grief wouldn’t leave me.
I’ve questioned and struggled,
I’ve wrestled with pain,
I’ve wondered if sunshine
Would ever return again.
Sometimes I’ve been angry.
Sometimes I’ve felt cold.
Sometimes my faith seemed
Too difficult to hold.
And yet, somehow,
Through every dark night,
I keep turning toward Jesus,
Still searching for light.
Perhaps that’s the strange thing
About faith when we’re broken:
Sometimes the smallest prayer
Is the strongest thing spoken.
“Jesus, help me.”
Four simple words
From a heart nearly done—
Yet somehow they whisper,
“I’m still holding on.”
I’ve wanted transformation,
Not merely religion.
I’ve wanted a heart
That belongs to Christ completely.
I’ve asked the Holy Spirit,
“Take everything in me.
My heart, mind, soul, and spirit—
Make me what You want me to be.”
I’ve dreamed of Heaven,
Of peace without tears,
Of finally escaping
The weight of these years.
A place where the grieving
Will never again cry,
Where death has no victory,
And suffering must die.
But here I am still,
On this earth, in this place,
Still learning to trust
The mysterious ways of grace.
And perhaps my story
Isn’t finished at all.
Perhaps God is working
When I think I’ve hit the wall.
Perhaps the broken pieces
I’m desperate to hide
Are the very places
Where Christ will reside.
So I won’t claim I’m happy
When sometimes I’m not.
I won’t say I understand
Every battle I’ve fought.
I’ll bring God my anger.
I’ll bring Him my pain.
I’ll bring Him my questions
Again and again.
Because beneath all my questions,
Beneath all my tears,
There’s still something inside me
That reaches for Him through the years.
I may be disappointed.
I may be afraid.
I may be exhausted
By the battles I’ve faced.
But Jesus, I’m still here.
And perhaps that is something.
Not because I’m strong.
Not because I’ve conquered.
But because somewhere inside
This wounded heart of mine,
I still want You.
So take what remains, Lord.
Take every broken part.
Take my memories,
My failures,
My grief,
My anger,
My dreams,
My questions—
Take my heart.
And if I cannot understand
Why my story became this way,
Then teach me to trust You
One day at a time.
Because my story isn’t over
Just because today hurts.
And the final chapter
Has not yet been written.
Jesus, please write it with me.
Amen. 🕊️✝️❤️🩹
Very Sincerely,
Markus Klinger
