Don’t Underestimate the Kids

by | Jul 15, 2024 | Children, Simplicity

“Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.”

(Proverbs 16:3 ESV)

“You make known to me the path of life; in your presence, there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

(Psalm 16:11 ESV)

I was sent a short video by a friend. I don’t know where he got it, and I don’t have it all, but here is the short version:

A teacher asked her class to name what they thought the 7 wonders of the world are. The most popular answers were:

  1. The Great Pyramids
  2. Taj Mahal
  3. The Grand Canyon
  4. Panama Canal
  5. The Empire State Building
  6. St. Peter Basilica
  7. The Great Wall of China

The teacher noticed that a quiet girl had not turned hers in. She asked if she was having trouble. The girl nodded so the teacher asked her to read it and maybe they could help her. Here is the girls’ list:

  1. To touch
  2. To taste
  3. To see
  4. To hear
  5. To feel
  6. To laugh
  7. To love

It said the classroom was so quiet you could hear a pin drop.

I can’t name the 7 wonders of the world, but I think I will claim the ones the young girl gave. We tend to take these senses for granted because they are just there for us. But what if you lost one of your senses? Take one we really take for granted. Sight. If you can’t see you have to have help doing the easiest of tasks.

Out of the mouths of children come some of the greatest words of wisdom. Did you notice all 7? The last one was love. There is no greater than God has for us. I want to challenge you to think a little differently. The things we overlook as simple and ordinary are often the most wonderful.

Have a great day, everyone.
